Jujutsu Kaisen S2 Ep 22 – The Overview

Yuji and Todo keep up their intense battle against Mahito. The curse throws a bunch of powerful transfigured humans into the mix to keep Todo occupied, but he effortlessly takes them down and reunites with Yuji. Following Gojo’s example, Mahito triggers a quick 0.2-second Domain Expansion, dodging Sukuna’s counter and managing to land a hit on Todo.

Todo acts swiftly, severing his hand before the transfiguration takes full effect. With a distraction from his locket, Todo employs his Cursed Technique by clapping Mahito’s hand, allowing Yuji to land a decisive blow with a Black Flash.

At this crucial moment, Mahito unveils the true form of his own soul and activates Idle Transfiguration on himself, transforming into the “Self-Embodiment of Perfection.” His defense proves even more formidable than Choso’s, prompting Yuji to gear up for another Black Flash.

Todo cleverly distracts Mahito, making him believe his Cursed Technique is in play, although it no longer functions, giving Yuji the opportunity to execute the Black Flash and shatter Mahito’s form.

In a candid moment, Yuji acknowledges their shared essence and vows to take Mahito down as many times as necessary. A somewhat panicky Mahito tries to escape while Yuji calmly pursues. However, just as Yuji is about to deliver the final blow, Pseudo-Geto unexpectedly appears, assuming that he is offering a lifeline to Mahito for now.

Things I Liked About Jujutsu Kaisen S2 Ep 22

Teamwork and Comradeship: Yuji and Todo’s seamless collaboration and teamwork stand out as tremendous likable moments for me. Despite facing a formidable opponent, they work together effectively, demonstrating their trust and understanding of each other in the heat of battle.

Now, just as the episode opens, I could not ignore but mention the part where Mahito is all ready to blow another deadly hit while Todo and Itadori share glances exhibiting their impeccable connection. The shocking expression on Mahito’s face was genuinely priceless.

Quick Thinking and Adaptability: Todo’s quick thinking and adaptability were stunning throughout the episode. Can’t deny his exhibition of courage, when he cuts off his hand to avoid the effects of transfiguration. His ability to stay composed under pressure adds a likable element to his character making him a valuable sorcerer without a question. Mechamaru’s evaluation of Todo was right on point.

Clever Use of Cursed Technique: Todo’s clever use of his Cursed Technique, involving a distraction with his locket, showcases his strategic prowess. This moment adds depth to his character and makes the audience appreciate his resourcefulness in combat.

Also, it gave the audience some seconds to feel happy and smile. The image of his idol was predictable but Itadori’s picture was definitely something I did not expect. The entire pinky montage was so needed in the narrative that gave me some minutes to feel happy truly.

Yuji’s Acknowledgment and Determination: Yuji’s acknowledgment of his shared thoughts with Mahito purposely triggers the motive to defeat Mahito that resonates positively. This moment reinforces Yuji’s strong sense of ambition and resolve in the face of adversity. It was phenomenal. Yes, I am hurting since the events of Shibuya have changed Yuji, there is no shine in his eyes, however, the deadly and cold look was evidently empowering.

Also, the representation where Yuji adopting a very calm demeanor slowly approaches Mahito terrifying him and he keeps on struggling to escape is superb. The visual representation where Mahito is the food and Yuji is the predator was so poetic and symbolic. Like how the tables have turned.

Todo’s Tactical Distraction: Todo’s tactical distraction, making Mahito believe his Cursed Technique is still active, is a clever move that not only highlights his intelligence but also adds a touch of humor to the situation, making it more enjoyable for the audience.

He clarifies that clapping was just a gesture to cheer up while fighting as a Jujustsu Sorcerer, and nothing can stop him from using his technique that shocks Mahito like insane. It was so satisfying, watching the curse struggle to articulate what was happening around.

Pseudo-Geto’s Unexpected Entrance: The unexpected entrance of Pseudo-Geto adds a surprising twist to the narrative. Mahito’s plea and Geto’s question land on the narrative just when it was required. This moment keeps the audience involved and curious about the unfolding events in the next week, creating anticipation for future developments in the story.
