Share

Hey, you all TOTTers, welcome to another review episode, and as you read from the title, we are here to review Rurouni Kenshin Ep 14 Yahiko’s Battle where we continue our captivating journey into the lives of our beloved characters as usual.

Now, as the story unfolds,  we are introduced to a catchy opening and ending credits. Yes, the credits don’t give away that much, however, the compositions are way too contemporary and worth humming.

Going back to the story, new challenges and adventures await our heroes more significantly little Yahiko, this time.  In this episode, we witnessed the character facing unexpected trials, forming a fresh new bond, and perhaps, uncovering hidden talents.

So without any further ado, let us get going with-

Rurouni Kenshin Ep 14- The Narrative in Short

Kenshin, Kaoru, and Sanosuke became curious about Yahiko’s frequent class absences, so they secretly followed him and found out what he was up to. So, to their surprise, they discovered that he was working at the Akabeko restaurant with a girl named Tsubame.

However, they soon found out that Tsubame was being forced to help thieves rob the restaurant by giving them a copy of a key. Yahiko tried to stop them, but Kaoru and Sanosuke were hesitant to let him handle it alone.

Kenshin, on the other hand, convinced them to trust Yahiko’s abilities and allow him to handle the situation without their help. Yahiko sought Kenshin’s advice on how to overcome multiple opponents simultaneously, and Kaoru reminded him of the principles of the Kamiya Kasshin Ryu.

During the night, Yahiko managed to retrieve the key from one of the thieves and decided to take on the remaining thieves one by one. But when Tsubame pleaded for his help, Kenshin and Sanosuke stepped in to assist him. In the end, Yahiko successfully defeated the leader of the thieves.

After everything was resolved, Yahiko confided in Sanosuke and revealed that his true goal was to get a Sakabato like Kenshin’s, but it was too expensive for him. Nevertheless, in a post-credits scene of Rurouni Kenshin Ep 14, Yahiko reflected on his growth as a swordsman and felt proud of his progress.

Things Which I Liked From Rurouni Kenshin Ep 14 Yahiko’s Battle

As the narrative begins we see Yahiko practicing. He keeps on replaying the flashback from the day when Kenshin referred to him as the precious successor of Kamiya Kassin Ryu. The brief sentence marked an inspiring impression on his heart that Yahiko is extremely motivated now.

What I mean is that the entire episode is arranged based on the decisions made by Yahiko. His emotional and physical development is the core of Rurouni Kenshin Ep 14. It was certainly very mature of the character don’t you think???

So, as we advance to the next slot, we find that Kouru, Sanosuke, and Kenshin indulge in a morning discussion where each of them puts their speculation on why Yahiko is missing during the morning hours. Now, what made me smile the most was how Kouru and Sanosuke rejected Kenshin’s thoughts on the context without any hesitation. They simply couldn’t process such evolving maturity in Yahiko at all.

However, Kenshin’s gold heart believed the young man. Here I felt that Kenshin understood Yahiko more than the two because he was once the age of Yahiko and he is an absolutely accomplished swordsman now. Therefore, he could watch what Yahiko was going through and Yahiko’s assurance answered it slightly to some extent.

Now, in the next scene, I simply did not expect the three, hiding on the terrace and then to follow the kid. Well, Kouru and Sanosuke were okay, but the adult one was also accompanying them. It was uncalled for.

So, Yahiko crossed all the checkpoints diligently. But the episode had something more in store to entertain us. Nonetheless, the experience that Kenshin has gained from life makes a good point. Yahiko was cashing his morning hours to fulfill some unknown intentions, which we come to find out later as the episode ends. And I totally understood Yahiko.

Next, in Rurouni Kenshin Ep 14 we are presented with the real fight that Yahiko is about to come face to face with. It was nothing more than the fight between the good and the evil. The exposure that Yahiko gained in the last couple of months was destined.

Otherwise, he would not have come to this juncture, where he was standing a few months ago, working for a sleazy group and undertaking petty criminal activities to survive on the streets.

Kouru and Sanosuke feel quite protective of the kid. Well, previously, we have seen that Kouru did not bother about Yahiko leaving her for good. But she walks confidently to secure his little precious successor, now. However, what Kenshin keeps in front is practical. Well, isn’t it obvious, he was Hitokiri Battosai once, he acquired the name gradually right? So…

Now, the little hero was getting ready for the upcoming heist however his practical knowledge of the same was incorrect. His mentor and Sanosuke showed him the gaps. But still, he goes to talk to the expert. The way Kenshin tackles the situation was too good. He instills everything Yahiko needs to hear proportionately motivating the kid and building him mentally for the forthcoming challenges.

Now, what Kouru says was also quite eye-opening. Nevertheless, Yahiko understood every word spoken by his family and he was ready for the final night.

So, Yahiko’s Battle begins perfectly. He planned out everything minutely and everything was going precisely. I was amazed watching Yahiko’s dexterity at this point.

But the moment the camera changes its angle we get to find out that his big brothers were already present at the spot to protect him but not get involved directly, was super cool. I loved how the moon shone bright and the glaring sharp eyes of Himura Kenshin and Sanosuke stole the second. Their gaze was enough to frighten away the scums.

Observant Yahiko understood that something is right, and I also feel, that he heard loud and clear what his big brothers were up to.

I must say that the dynamics that Sanosuke and Kenshin share is something I love and appreciate more in every episode. They understand each other without vocal communication which is really fun to watch.

Now, Yahiko finally agrees that Kouru is a good teacher, and Kouru also proves to be so, by being present at the battle spot. Her support to her precious student by just being present and asking the little girl to motivate Yahiko was exactly what we all need from our mentors and teachers.

In fact, when everyone was shocked by Yahiko’s skillful performance, it was Kouru who was genuinely smiling a prideful smile.

So, everything goes just as it should, and we finally learn that Yahiko was working during the morning to save for Sakabato which is quite an expensive sword as confirmed by Kenshin. However, unlike Sanosuke, Kenshin supports Yahiko’s goal which was kind of mature and motvating. But his slow and strong confirmation of the price tag of Sakabato made the context a bit light, isn’t it?

Let’s see what happens next in ‘That Man – Raijuta’.
