Deep Water is an erotic psychological thriller that you can watch both on Amazon Prime and Hulu, which was released on 18th March 2022. This casts two notable names from the industry i.e, Ben Affleck and Ana De Armas. It is a 115-minute long film that is a directorial venture of Adrian Lyne, which is definitely deep but is it worth your time?

What You Might Like About Deep Water(2022)
The Performance
Undoubtedly one of the brilliant performances produced by the leads. And one should also appreciate the kid ‘Trixie’, for her presence in the movie. Precisely speaking, the Van Allan family did their part superb, killing every chance they got to walk in the shoes of the roles, dictated to the actors.
The Direction
Adrian Lyne did an amazing job in directing the movie. Yes, his last artwork, Unfaithful was a 2002 release. But surely, he did not lose his touch of directing at all. It was amazing. It was a proficient task that is detailed and well-executed to be sure.
The Ambiance
The intense somber music and the gloomy yet shinny atmosphere will transpire something deep from the moment the movie begins. Everybody in the movie wants to talk and help out, but still kind of feels like overstepping their role as good family friends. They knew what was going on inside the walls of the Van Allan family and therefore remained friendly and concerned. It was nice.
Trixie Van Allan
She might be the kid of the family but plays a solid role as the daughter of this nuclear household. She is sassy, opinionated, and definitely observant. She understands what is going on around her.
She is the string that is tying up the marriage of her parents. She is a happy-go-lucky girl, much mature for her age(we find the kid helping out her father while his time in the kitchen doing the dishes), and knows exactly what is right and what is wrong. She understands both of her parents and is someone whom you would love in this movie.
Also, how was Trixie’s syncing and dancing during the end credit scene? Again, cute, sweet, and of course sassy right?
Vic Van Allan
Vic Van Allan or Trixie’s father and Melinda’s husband, to be specific is another good thing who is present in the movie. He is a warm, caring, adoring, responsible, calm, and patient family man, father, and husband. But he is also, a calculative, meticulous, sincere, and intimidating human being underneath.
Yes, he is a criminal, however, you will like him. He is the Light Yagami and Lelouch V Brittania of this project whom you will support and will justify his actions while rooting for him till the end.
He loves his wife even when he knows her being unfaithful. You will watch the movie walking in his shoes, therefore you might not end up hating this character even when you know that he is a criminal.
Also, you will be amazed to see how proficiently he carries out the act of committing the crimes without a sweat on his face. But he certainly is scared to death. He is stressed and tensed to the core but pretends to stay calm and patient like always.
Also, his sick personality gets a vivid detailing, such as his voice changes when he is warm and happy, especially around his daughter and sometimes with her friends. However, when he is not happy watching whatever around him, his voice grows strong and deep.
Another great thing about Vic is that he is an honorable gentleman. He tries his level best to keep the mess under the rug and pretend everything is normal and happy behind those doors of Van Allan house. He denies the fact of his wife’s affair every time he is questioned by his friend, acting as an honorable and responsible husband for sure.
The Camerawork
Eigil Bryld did an amazing job while contributing his ingenious skill in styling the movie. It was spectacular and noteworthy. You will find the work to be detailed, nice, and undoubtedly substantial.
In fact, we can say that it was his talent that added those somber effects to the movie, right?
The Happy Family
Towards the end of the movie, we find a happy Van Allan family getting together with their family picnic. It was nice and was full of love.
The Subtle Character Introductions In The Plot
Well, the movie had only three prominent characters who were the Van Allan family. However, the important side characters which were needed in the advancement of the plot were introduced very subtly.
It was not obvious, however as you move forward with the film, you will find those faces playing minute additions in the progress of the plot.
What You Might Not Like About Deep Water(2022)
Melinda Van Allan
Besides being an obvious choice, Melinda is someone, whom you will hate the entire time. She is an elegant lady outside however intolerably messy inside. He is arrogant, selfish, disrespectful, a hypocrite, and a drunk lady who cares hardly for her daughter or husband.
You will also be triggered to find her mingling with any fine-looking man in the town. She finds men like a kid’s stuff and becomes obsessed with the human, insufferably.
She is always insolent towards her husband thus insulting the family and of course herself too. But she was hardly aware of that.
Too Much Bad Parenting
No wonder the kid is mature for her age. She finds herself involved with the adults and their business observing everything while sitting in her chair. We also, find, his dad asking her to serve a drink to the guest which was not cool.
Additionally, after returning home Vic finds her daughter learning Poker which is being taught by the babysitter, again not cool. Further, we watch Vic sharing drinks with his daughter in celebration of his accomplishment. Again not cool.
Don Wilson
He is that nosy, judgmental, and very annoying person, whom one must be avoiding in their lifetime at any cost. Although he looked forward to a happy crime-free locality, still he was deliberately annoying whenever he appeared on the screen.
He was more of a writer of the town who was looking for a story, so ‘Prove Vic a Criminal, and bring Justice’. He posed to be a Stephen King fan since his write-ups shouted so.
The Sudden Degradation
Vic seemed a very meticulous fella who knew what he is doing. However, when Melinda finds Tony’s wallet in Vic’s snail’s pod it was a very silly step by Vic which is unacceptable. Basically, it was out of his character.
He knew what he was doing the entire time, therefore, disposing of the wallet beforehand and not bringing it into his home was something he should have done in the first place. Also, his way of executing Tony’s corps was again not acceptable.
The whole appearance of him being all sorted and well organized like a typical negative hero in action goes faulty and not working at all.
TOTT’s Take On Deep Water
Well, it is definitely a dark movie that had potential which lost its luster since it was adapted from the literary work by Patricia Highsmith. Hence experimentation was limited. If it was an inspiration from the original, then the director could have made the story more intricate and intense.
You will neither feel exhilarated nor satisfied when the movie ends.
