Sophie from Howl’s Moving Castle is introduced in the very first instance by sewing up designs in the hats in her family-owned hat shop Hatter. Howl’s Moving Castle is a very magical movie that showcases a romantic plot that goes through a number of uncertainties and upheavals. We find numerous portrayals of brutal human events in the movie.
Hayao Miyazaki cleverly in almost every movie, details the narrow-minded human race who only looks after their selfish needs. We in this movie too find battles and clashes amongst states, that damage civilization burning down cities.
However still, the movie which you can watch on Netflix spells bounds the audience with the notable characters that sit strong at the epicenter of this story. For instance Sophie.
She is a wonderful character, who is brave, courageous, motivational, adorable, inspiring, and a great lady that simply steals the show.

10 Times Sophie From Howl’s Moving Castle Proved Amazingly Inspiring
She Takes Care Of Hatter
Well, being the eldest, she feels it is her duty to manage the only thing her father left for the family. Although we find that her sister is worried about the future, Sophie plans for herself, as a younger sister, she asks her to live her life. To which Sophie somehow exhibits an uncertain expression. But she is a responsible girl and is doing her duties of taking care of the shop well because it meant important to her father.
She Worries For Her Sister
Her sister works in a commercial place. She takes up the address and sneaks up, meeting on her way the charismatic Mr. Pendragon. He escorts her down to the address. Her meet-up with her sister was nice. They talk about the experience Sophie just went through. Sophie clarifies her intention for visiting her in the first place which was, that she wanted to see if her sister was doing fine, and she returns with a satisfying heart.
She Is A Very Calm Lady For Her Age
After encountering the Witch of The Waste, she turns old far from her actual age. She tries her level best to handle the situation without panicking. She tries to calm down handling the entire shocking situation all by herself, without troubling any of her family or her workers. She assures herself with a positive note. This feature in her character makes her leave the home and the city for good. She believed that she can manage on her own. Carrying just a few foods from the kitchen she leaves with a fragile body but a strong mind.
She Lands Upon Howl’s Moving Castle
She saves Turnip head, which makes the petrified scarecrow help her. It brings the moving castle to her so that she can find a roof for the night. She somehow manages to enter the constantly moving castle and finds herself a seat in front of Calcifer.
Calcifer unwittingly reveals their(Howl and Calcifer) contract to this old lady. This revelation helps Sophie control Calcifer in the later events of the movie which kind of seems corrupt but funny. She knows how to take things in her palm.
She Wins Markl Too
After taking control of the morning and the breakfast, Sophie takes full control over the Howl’s Moving Castle. Although initially the kid, Markl showed reluctance at accepting the new lady in the home. But as soon as he finds that the Demon fire obeys the Granny, he feels surprised.
After Howl leaves, we find this young kid helping out the self-appointed new cleaning lady with her chores. In the course of the action, they sure enjoy some cool sober time with each other bonding.
Sophie Has The Power To Transform Coal To Diamond
She is the most non-magical human in the family. But still, she has the power to change any difficult situation into a happy one. With her presence, the messy, dirty, nasty moving castle changed. The dull interiors transformed into a bright happy abode. She is that girl who has an answer to any trouble.
Sophie Is A Blessing
She was betrayed by Heen the animal whom Madame Suliman sends to escort Mrs. Pendragon to the castle. She assumed the creature to be Howl in disguise, so she carried the animal with pain to the top of the stairs. Then we find she converses with the Witch of The Waste with confidence(well she is the one who made her age) without showing any negativity towards the lady. In fact, she cheers the lady up when she finds herself in a hard situation while climbing up the sharp stairs.
Again she takes both Heen and Witch of the Waste to Howl’s Moving Castle to provide them a shelter. She takes care of both of them with honesty.
She Is The String That Binds The Family
Her strong character was trying hard to save her family before. Her new family also needs someone who can take care of them. We find Heen, Markl, and Calcifer along with Witch of the Waste completely relying upon this teen. She brought a soul to this moving castle that was missing.
Sophie Is An Angle
Leaving Howl off the countdown because of obvious reasons, Sophie loved each one in the family. She loved taking care of them, loved them, and protected each one of them when they needed. She made the alive castle a home where there is food, tea, fun, and love.
She Is A Brave Heart
Without a question, Sophie is a brave girl that inspires us. She never panics even if she panics, she never lets the others go through the same. She set her journey for an unknown future in an old feeble heavy body, just to make sure that her family is not worried.
She lands upon a magical castle, where there is a fire demon, a kid, and a man with a messy unhygienic lifestyle. She takes up the responsibility to gift them a good life since she needs shelter. She faces the uncertainties with courage. She even stays upright while meeting the Witch of the Waste and Madame Suliman.
She handles the whole chaos, the flashback, and the monster Howl with courage, dignity, and honesty, which ultimately breaks the charm freeing Howl and Calcifer while returning Howl’s heavy heart to its rightful owner.
