Also, the one who will win will get a huge amount of ₩45.6 billion where the game began with 456 players. With each player eliminated their share gets added to the original price money. The ones who enrolled in this game were either in huge debt or scums of society. However, each of the participants comes with a deep story that will affect the viewers emotionally for sure.
By the end of the series, the audience gets a slight hint that the entire concept of the Squid Game is arranged all over the world. The viewers of the show happen to watch the South Korean version of this game. The game is played on an isolated island where there is no network to communicate with the outside world.

What About Future Diary(Mirai Nikki)?
The anime is based on a survival game played through your cell phone, in which the winner will be inheriting the seat which is currently held by the Deus Ex Machina the God of Time and Space. He is also the overseer of the diary holders and creators. So Deus formulated this survival game with consultation with John Bacchus in order to learn who is the worthy candidate to hold his seat after he is gone. So this particular game does not have any particular name.
It’s just that the opponent will try their level best to eliminate you from the game which is by killing. They can take up any step to kill you. Be that electrocuting you or simply blowing you up. They can also, chop you down. Additionally, the players can also consider working in a team or going solo.
This game began with 13 players in a specific universe and it happens to be the same in each universe. Each of the players comes with a strong, emotional, psychological background. Again audience would feel for each character/participant and their intentions to win the game.
Let us now seat patiently and find out the subtle similarities between these two TV shows one by one…
Top 5 Subtle Similarities Between Squid Game And Future Diary That You Would Like To Talk About
5. Survival Game
The most obvious notion that centers both the TV shows are that both the programs are a survival game. Here each of the participants needs to fight for their existence without showing any kind of cordial behaviors against the opponent.
4. The Lead Loses Everything Precious By The End Of The Game
Gi Hun in Squid Game takes part in the game just because he was buried deep with debt. In fact, he lost his wife and daughter because he was not serious with his life. He played casual style while handling the daily chores including earning for his life. That genuinely made his mother struggle in her old age. He was a mess.
But he loved his daughter and mother. He participated in the game to get financial help without knowing the actual intent of Squid Game. After playing the first game he left the premise. But returning home he found out that his mother is sick and requires immediate medical attention. That made him return and play for the prize money. He was genuinely playing the game to pay the medical expense for his mother.
Similarly, Yukiteru Amano was obliviated by his participation in this game. He actually considered Deus Ex Machina to be an imaginary friend with whom he shares his secrets. He came across the reality pretty late. Just like Gi Hun, Yuki was terrified of the game. He was living a peaceful teenage life under his mother and was not at all happy with his participation in the game. He played the entire game because he was forced by circumstances.
Therefore just like the lead in Squid Game, Yuki from Future Diary eventually lost everything when the game came to an end. Gi Hun lost his mother, she dies without treatment. And Yuki loses his mother as well because of an uneventful situation turning up suddenly in his life. This shatters both the hero but makes both the lead strong and move with the next step that life offers them.
3. We Find A Huge Development In Both The The Male Characters
No one can forget the sweet smile Gi Hun gives when he was asked to smile for updating his identification in the game. Also, his simpleton lifestyle cost him pretty much. He took life pretty easy until he entered the game.
Yuki was a regular boy that went to school and returned having casual conversations with his mother and his imaginary friend Deus Ex Machina. Everything was going great until Yuno and his knowledge of the game turned up real.
After watching so much brutality throughout the series of participation in the game, both the leads transformed. They learned way too much than expected. They grew as people and developed as humans, both proving their worth for the position they were chosen for.
2. The Situations Too Some Extent Coincides
We find Gi Hun has a female comrade who he trusts even though they had a baffling confrontation at the beginning of the series. Gi Hun trusted Kang Sae Byeok more than his friend and took care of her brother later in life.
Yuki too bonded with Yuno eventually. He trusted her the most. He also had Minene Uryo, with whom he had a rough relation while the game started. But gradually, they came close and become comrades.
We have Masumi Nishijima a cop in Future Diary whom you can rely on with your actions. Similarly, there is Hwang Jun Ho who goes to the extent of investigating the brutal game all by himself. Both the characters show a ray of hope in the TV programs.
There is a third survivor that sacrifices for the greater good in both the programs. We have Cho Sang Woo in Squid Game who compromises his life to save Gi Hun, although playing ugly. Similarly, we have Minene Uryo who does play messy when the anime begins but becomes a prominent character who even compromises her life for the greater good.
The only difference is that Cho Sung Ho dies but Minene survives her compromise.
1. The Unexpected Villain
We all assumed Gong Yoo would be the actual villain since he recruits the team of participants and the guards in Squid Game. But the actual villain is Oh Il Nam the old man who also participated in the game. He was genuinely bored and was counting his days. So, he started playing with the civilians in a deadly game. He was reliving his childhood through the games. He along with the Front Man controlled the entire program.
In the anime, we find the actual antagonist turns up to be Murumuru along with Yuno. Well, Yuno played an antagonizing character the entire anime. Her mere presence was enough to terrify the audience. However, when we come to end we find that the duo is actually working together. They are the deadliest combo that actually manipulated the entire survival game without anyone’s knowing. We come to the realization in the last and just like Squid Game, the audience is left shocked as to what was the deal till now.
Well, these are the minute similarities that you will enjoy while you watch both the shows. Squid Game and Future Diary both shows are brutal in their depiction of surviving the game. In addition, each of the characters playing in the shows forgets their humanity just to win the position(Future Diary) and the prize money(Squid Game). Further soft-hearted ones won’t be able to switch over to the next episodes. You have to be strong and considerate with all the blood and cuts shown in these fictions.
